About

This exhibition explores beautiful moments experienced in the unique and special local environments of Namadgi, the Snowy Mountains, the Brindabellas, Tidbinbilla, and the Australian National Botanic Gardens. It is inspired by times when you spot something alive and busy in the trees, and you watch with fascination another creature’s wholly different but parallel experience of the place you are sharing; when you stand on a mountain and watch the weather approach even as it takes your breath away; or when you take a moment to lose yourself in the smoky green of Eucalyptus leaves, the vivid warmth of wet snow gum bark, or brilliant regrowth against stark burnt surrounds. Amy Beggs-French enjoys creating functional art with ceramics in simple, elegant forms with a colour palette inspired by the natural world. She has been working as a ceramicist for the past four years, teaching as well as making for markets, restaurants and cafes. Penny Deacon paints local wildlife and landscapes in watercolours and oils. She came to art from a background in languages, science and outdoor pursuits, and now spends most days in the bush painting en plein air, or seeking out wildlife to photograph and paint.
