About

A CELEBRATION OF URBAN ART IN CANBERRA Over one weekend, 4–6 March 2022, 15 urban artists will transform the built environment of Braddon and Civic, Canberra. Hosted by the ACT Government and curated by acclaimed graffiti artist PHIBS, Surface is a festival of urban art in the ACT that celebrates the raw energy and rich diversity of this scene: think graffiti, murals, portraits, stencils, paste-ups, light sculptures, and abstract works, each with a clear message. Surface Festival channels contemporary placemaking, urban cultural renewal, and community connection. It explores and broadens existing notions of artmaking and asks us to think about art and its role as a cultural compass, both on and off the street. The Festival will see blank surfaces on buildings and laneways throughout our city become canvases for colourful urban creations. Local and interstate artists will work across three days painting walls with colourful, textured and wild surfaces. Watch the artworks unfold and take part in a series of events, talks, workshops, tours and satellite events across Canberra for Surface Urban Art Festival happening 4-6 March, 2022.
