About
Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) presents a new solo exhibition by Sydney-based artist Salote Tawale. 'Love from here' features a YouTube-style cooking show in which the artist cooks a traditional Fijian dish on a campfire, using colonial ingredients such as corned beef. Rather than being filmed in her village in Fiji, the video is shot on Australian bushland.
This video installation acts as a self-portrait and relates to her ongoing exploration into cultural identity, particularly the diaspora experience and the realities of being from a mixed heritage. Each element of the work explores the coalescence of her Fijian heritage with everyday life living in contemporary Australia.
Open daily, the museum is the heart of Dean street, making it the perfect place to escape the weather, be inspired, meet an artist, get creative, take a break, shop Australian designers, or enjoy a coffee, wine or meal on the gardened terrace. Entry is free.
