About
There's no better time to visit the historic homes and gardens of Hill End. Hill End Historic Houses Open Day offers visitors the opportunity to step into Australian history with 12 heritage buildings open to the public. From the grand historic residence Craigmoor to humble miners’ cottages and artist’s retreats, the day is a rare opportunity to see inside Hill End’s heritage buildings and get a glimpse of what life was like for families living in the goldfields.
Explore the rich artistic legacy of Hill End, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) will open its two residency cottages: Murrays Cottage, the Hill End base for artist Donald Friend and his contemporaries including Russell Drysdale and Margaret Olley in the late 1940s and early 1950s; and HaefligersCottage, home to artists Jean Bellette and Paul Haefliger in the 1950s, has been a base for some of Australia’s most important artists including Jeffrey Smart, David Strachan, John Olsen and Brett Whiteley.
Registration in The Royal Hall, Hill End. This Open Day is being run in collaboration by The Hill End Arts Council, BRAG and National Parks and Wildlife Service.
