Vanessa Whittington - North and South: Australian Landscape Journeys

This exhibition explores the contrasting panoramas and hues of the Australian landscape from the rainforests of the Daintree National Park in Far North Queensland, to the arid plains and dramatic stone country of Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land in the Northern territory, and the rugged beauty of the Freycinet Coastline on the Tasmanian Coast, Australia’s southern extreme. The works emphasise key landscape features such as the iconic orange rocks of the Freycinet coastline, the termite mounds of the Kakadu floodplains and the large rock outcrop of Burrungkuy, famous for its Aboriginal rock art gallery. The oils on canvas and linen and watercolours that comprise this exhibition are based on memories, impressions and photographs from journeys in these places.
