About

National Mosque Open Day (NMOD) is an annual Australia-wide event that features a number of mosques across the nation opening their doors to the public and inviting them to come in and explore their local mosque. In NSW, the following mosques are open; Young Mosque, Lakemba Mosque and Cabramatta Mosque. NMOD was initiated to challenge common misconceptions and stereotypes and connect all types of people to a sacred space for Muslim communities. As part of an independent evaluation of the project, the University of New South Wales concluded that National Mosque Open Day was “globally ground-breaking” and the first of its kind anywhere in the world. While mosques are open all year round, many non-Muslim Australians are unaware of this fact and do not take the opportunity to meet local Muslims and find answers to their questions about Islam. Participating mosques will share a unique experience, representing the diverse make-up of its congregation. All the partnering mosques are open and welcoming to the visitors and encourage you to ask questions of religious elders and seek answers. NMOD will implement a COVID Safe plan for visitors to ensure the safety and wellbeing of others. If restrictions are introduced, this event may be postponed, stay tuned via their website.
