About

Explore the gentle, meditative art of whittling by learning to carve bird and animal forms. The emphasis of this class is to learn to create a small three-dimensional sculpture hand-held using only a knife. Learn to make objects that are recognisable, abstract in form and can be held in the hand. You will be encouraged to play with shapes without being bound by functionality. The timber used for the whittling these little sculptures is very much part of the story, and the form can be influenced by the grain. Students work with a variety of beautiful Australian timbers. In the class, you will be provided with a variety of animal blanks. They will discuss, design and interpretation of forms, timber and tool selection, knife sharpening, whittling techniques and finishing using milk paint, natural pigments, oils and charring. All tools and blanks provided, no previous experience is necessary. Please wear covered shoes. Entry Cost All tickets $175
