AUSTRALIAN POETRY SLAM COMES TO Coffs Harbour

Australian Poetry Slam (APS) calls for Coffs Harbour poets to take the stage on 6th August to perform their work and awe the audience.

Performing writers have two minutes to inspire judges - randomly selected from the crowd -with their original lyrics, poetry, stories, raps, or whatever they do with words. To get your creative juices flowing, Coffs Harbour Library offers an opportunity for aspiring writers to perfect their ideas in a spoken word workshop.

The ultimate prize is an all-expenses paid international tour valued at $10k. The APS Champ performs in 2020 at Singapore Writers FestivalHong Kong International Literary FestivalByron Writers FestivalUbud Writers and Readers Festival, and Canadian writers festivals.

“Regardless of age, location, cultural background or education everyone can TELL their story. I love hearing neighbours walk up to each other afterward and say, ‘I’ve never heard you speak like that before!’” - Miles Merrill, Creative Director of Word Travels, the literary arts organisation running this international program.

Each year, over 1000 spoken word artists perform in over 60 APS Heats for an audience of over 20,000 across the Asia-Pacific. From small towns to major metropolises, local libraries to street soirées, Australian Poetry Slam provides the stage for some of the best spoken word talent in the world.

Last year, Melanie Mununggurr-Williams was crowned the first Indigenous APS National Champion.
