About

Through the Smoke, Through our Eyes is an exhibition showcasing the stories and experiences of Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah staff in response to the 2019 Gospers Mountain bushfire. This exhibition provides a moment of reflection and provides a powerful opportunity to acknowledge and document the impact of the largest forest fire in Australia's history on the Garden. The 27 artworks have been developed by the Mt Tomah staff and reflect their efforts defending and restoring one of the world's most precious cool climate plant collections. On display at the Visitor Centre, the artworks range from photography, through to sculpture and poetry. Created by their team, from apprentices to arborists and Curator Manager, this exhibition also reflects the personal journey of resilience, courage and healing. At the centrepiece of the exhibition is a burnt tree trunk sourced from The Garden's heavily impacted conservation area. Through the Smoke, Through our Eyes will be on display between 4 March and 27 April. Entry is free.
