About

A life-sized sculpture of Major-General, The Hon. James Alexander Kenneth Mackay C.B., O.B.E., V.D., F.R.G.S. will be unveiled at the Light Horse Memorial in Murrumburrah. Harden Murrumburrah is known as the birthplace of the first Australian Horse. The sculpture's placement at Harden Murrumburrah recognizes Mackay's vision that a mounted Light Horse, capitalizing on Australian bush skills combining infantry and cavalry would created a force to protect a soon to be federated Australia. He believed it was essential for Australians to protect themselves using their own resources. The sculpture is the result of a collaboration between the Harden Murrumburrah Historical Society, Murrumburrah Heritage Lt. Horse Troop, the Mackay Family Association and Strong Country Community Grant Funding.
