About

For the thirteen nights of Sydney Solstice, the Opera House’s monumental steps will be transformed with live music, talks and poetry readings. Every night at sunset, you can also see this year's Badu Gili - a six-minute projection on the Opera House’s eastern Bennelong sails. Badu Gili means ‘water light’ in Gadigal language, and shares the ancient stories and rich contemporary culture of Australia’s First Nations. This year’s Badu Gili: Wonder Women projection marks the third chapter of the sails lighting and brings to life stories of shared histories – from the Eureka Stockade and mission days to the devastating bushfires of 2019-20. It also depicts intimate family encounters and everyday life in First Nations communities, and an imagined world of superheroes. Artwork previously shown in 2017 and 2018 will also feature. The outdoor event will also include a pop-up bar serving drinks and snacks inspired by native ingredients, curated by a First Nations chef. From 5pm.
