Presented by The Music Lounge & The Conservatorium of Music An exaltation of time and place centered around Wollongong. Grown Ocean is the large ensemble project of the 2019 Freedman Fellowship winning pianist/composer Novak Manojlovic. Since forming as a collection of close friends and collaborators amongst the Sydney music scene, the ensemble has since evolved into a restless and iconoclastic community at the forefront of creative Australian music. Here they present the launch of their sophomore release ‘Memory Gardens’ – a vast, through-composed exaltation of time and place centered around Manojlovic’s hometown of Wollongong. Manojlovic’s ‘Memory Gardens’ layers brass, woodwinds and strings atop tremulous soundscapes and thrumming backbeats to evoke images of the coasts, mountains, highways and rail-lines of his youth. The resulting music is an expansive, cathartic and profound meditation upon memory and loss. For this performance, 13 creative voices drawn from leading Australian ensembles including Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Offspring, Godtet & more will present this record in full. Entry Cost All tickets $15 - Standing room tickets will be available once seating tickets have sold out. A per transaction fee of $6.95 applies for phone and online bookings.
