About

Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) is again opening the doors of two living laboratories/homes for Sustainable Houses Day. The Illawarra Flame House: Through the application of innovative technology and clever design, the Illawarra Flame showcases a radical, yet affordable and achievable blueprint – a benchmark for retrofitting a typical Australian fibro house. Their philosophy was to transform existing houses into stylish, affordable and sustainable homes for the future. The Desert Rose House: Through practical collaboration between students and industry, Team UOW in the Solar Decathlon 2018 endeavours to change the way the world views sustainable housing by building a home that is architecturally inspiring, innovative and adaptive to a person’s needs as they continue to age, creating ‘A House For Life’. Open the door to sustainable living by virtually touring some of Australia’s most environmentally progressive homes on show at Sustainable House Day. This unique peer to peer education is a valuable resource for anyone looking for inspiration, ideas and the key to sustainable living.
