About
Bringing the Bard to parks and libraries, the 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival presents enthralling outdoor theatre, live music, swordplay, historical talks, and more family fun.
Now in its 15th year, the 2021 Festival will haunt Brisbane in October with free open-air performances of Shakespeare's timeless tragedy 'Macbeth'.
Watch your back amongst witches, ghosts and an overambitious Scottish general. Directed by multi-award winner Eugene Gilfedder, this professional production will showcase the talents of outstanding Brisbane actors and artists.
Experience 'Macbeth' in Sandgate's Einbunpin Lagoon Park on October 24th, and Brisbane City’s Roma Street Parkland Amphitheatre on Halloween weekend (October 30th/31st).
Come early to watch swordplay demonstrations by Prima Spada School of Fence and interact with roving performers. Hear live music by young quintet Unidentified Brass Objects, the elegant Mandolins in Brisbane, and dance to traditional Scottish/English tunes played by folk trio The Stowaways.
Food trucks will serve pizzas, waffles and beverages before and during the play.
Sunday 31st October will feature family-friendly activities from 3pm, including a 30-minute interactive version of ‘Macbeth’ for kids at 4pm.
Additional festival events include historical talks with live music by the Sanctuary String Quartet, children’s activities, and a Shakespeare trivia night.
The 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival is run by Brisbane classical music community radio station 4MBS Classic FM 103.7. Shakespeare-inspired radio programs will be broadcast on 4MBS throughout October.
