Testimonial:

I thoroughly recommend other charities and organisations that are looking to develop directories or custom solutions to get in touch with My Community Directory and see how they can assist with creating a valuable resource for your community.

The team at My Community Directory have been exceptionally helpful and are there to offer support whenever we need it. It’s a fabulous initiative and it means we can be found easily across the region we support.

Case Study

We had to think differently with Covid

Prior to the pandemic, Hunter Homeless Connect were manually creating and updating a directory of services to be distributed at our annual event each year. It was a labour intensive process that used multiple resources and time, gathering the information and updates. We were using design software also, which meant juggling the new information each year, into a whole new template design.

When Covid hit, and we were unable to hold our event, we were provided with a unique opportunity (initially funded by the City of Newcastle), to create our own platform on the My Community Directory website, which uniquely incorporates information from multiple LGAs and allowed us to produce a dedicated specialist homeless service directory for the region, this quickly became a valuable resource, not only for those seeking support, but for other community services, businesses and organisations to use it for their own referral purposes.

Taking the directory online, meant that we could remove all of the previous manual processes involved in collecting the updates each year. Organisations can now update their own listings on the website, and it is automatically reflected in the downloadable pdf version that we have customised to suit our needs.

The PDF is now up-to-date all year round, instead of being updated only once a year with a lot of manual work required. All we need to do now, is simply print the latest version from the website when we require hard copies at our event or distribute the URL to other organisations throughout the community to share.

We have recently developed another piece of technology to support this that allows people to connect to services and information on their mobile through the Access My Community app. A QR code is available to scan and download for people to access and it can be shared by texting or sending an email link.

The team at My Community Directory have been exceptionally helpful and supportive throughout the initial setup/transitional process with data collection and verification and continue to be accessible with support whenever we need it.

It’s a fabulous initiative and as our directory sits on our local council’s My Community website, we can be found easily by those who might not be aware of its existence.

I thoroughly recommend other charities and organisations to research the viability of similar directories and solutions as they can be a valuable resource for all communities.
