About

The Max Fatchen Awards began in the early 1990s as the CJ Dennis Literary Awards for primary school children in the local area around Clare, South Australia. In the mid-90s Max Fatchen came to Auburn and gave his blessing to use his name for the children's poetry competition including children in Reception to Year 12 in South Australia’s private and State schools. Auburn has been touted as the “Paris end of the Clare Valley”, hence this year’s CJ Dennis/ Max Fatchen celebration weekend will be part of the Auburn Frenchfest. As a poetry competition where originality and integrity are rewarded, it has always been themed and has had monetary prizes donated by local Auburn businesses: Taylors Wines, Grosset Wines and Mount Horrocks Wines. In keeping with the theme, this year’s competition will reward poetry written about Paris famous buildings, landmarks and monuments. There are four categories: Reception to Year 2 - Years 3, 4 and 5 - Years 6 and 7. First Prize: $100 - Second Prize: $50 - Third Prize: $25 Closing date for entries is Friday, 12th August 2021.
