About

Allegri Ensemble’s October concert showcases the wonderful part-songs which flourished across Europe during the Renaissance and in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Our hour-long program features choral songs in four languages, all exploring the essential themes of human existence: the joys of love and good company, the sorrows of loss and death, the beauty of nature – and poking fun at local authority figures. The concert includes sets of part-songs by Max Bruch and Claude Debussy (the sublime Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans), as well as music by Edward Elgar (My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land) and the majestic Lay a Garland by Robert Pearsall. From the Renaissance, we present a variety of lesser-known gems alongside some old favourites such as The Silver Swan, Innsbruck Ich Muss Dich Lassen, and The Three Ravens. Do join us at St Mary’s Cathedral at 3 pm on Saturday 16 October for an entertaining concert which celebrates the joy of singing together. Entry Cost Adult $32 Concession $25
