Love's Bitter Mystery

This is a one-off film premiere of a Melbourne-made film. Love's Bitter Mystery is a neo-Gothic biopic about one life-changing year in the life of James Joyce (1903-4) when a nobody with big ambitions sets up the conditions that will turn him into the literary sensation of modernity. It's immersive, it's arty, as well as sad and uplifting, and it straddles theatre and cinema in genre. It is made by written by Steve Carey of Bloomsday in Melbourne and made in collaboration with Scene's Film-maker, Jak Scanlon.
