Event runs from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

One of Australia’s oldest international sporting contests comes to Melbourne in November, when the Victorian Croquet Centre at Cairnlea hosts the MacRobertson Shield. Known as the “Olympic Games of Croquet”, the MacRobertson Shield began as an association croquet team contest between England and Australia in 1925. Today the MacRobertson Shield, played every four years, is a four country contest, with six player teams from Australia, England, United States and New Zealand fighting out a series of Test Matches. Australia will defend the Shield which it won in California in 2017, the first time in 80 years that Australia has held the title. This is a rare opportunity to watch association croquet at its international best, with a star-studded lineup of the world’s best players. The Shield is named after the man who originated the contest, Sir Macpherson Robertson, the Melbourne based founder of MacRobertson Confectionery, who took that 1925 Australian team to England. The Victorian Croquet Centre offers excellent spectator facilities, so plan your trip to Melbourne now for this unique opportunity to watch Australia defend the Shield against the world’s top players.
