About

Immerse yourself in intertwining stories, atmospheric music and mesmerising sounds of the natural environment in Sonica Botanica. Weaving together interviews, field recordings and a musical score, this evocative listening experience responds to collectors’ passions, botanical knowledge, favourite memories, childhood impressions, historical anecdotes and cultural viewpoints. Use your smartphone and headphones to take in these sublime sonic snapshots in this self-guided experience created by Melbourne sound artist Patrick Cronin. Sonica Botanica is a series of four audio experiences, celebrating special landscapes at Melbourne Gardens. The first episode responds to the newly designed Arid Garden with the remaining three episodes being released throughout 2021 as part of the Gardens’ 175th milestone program. Due for release mid Autumn 2022, Episode 4 journeys down to the northern end of Melbourne Gardens to discover the waterbodies that sustain life in the Gardens, their history and their significance to RBGV's plant collections, with a focus on Long Island and the Lower Yarra River Habitat, and the Southern China Collection. Presented as part of the National Sustainable Living Festival 2021.
