The Murrindindi Beanie Festival is a community event, a feast of fibre art, fabulous beanies, stalls and more. The Festival is held on the fourth weekend in July among rolling green hills and is an easy scenic 90 minute drive north east from Melbourne via either Yea or Healesville. The town of Alexandra comes alive with all things beanie, as lamp posts, shops and businesses take up the challenge of wearing the best beanie. Expanding to become the Fibre Festival of the North East, the event promises to provide fun and frivolity as beanies of all shapes and sizes are donated, displayed and available to purchase. The festival also features a market full of wool, spinning, yarn, stalls and many fibre artists, throughout the weekend. Do you knit, crochet or enjoy being creative? This year the Beanie Festival offers classes in fibre arts in the lead up to the Festival. Further info, category details, conditions and entry forms, look for the festival brochure or visit the Facebook page. Proceeds from the sale of the beanies go towards local charities within the community of Murrindindi. Doors open from 10:00am to 4:00pm both days and festival entry is by gold coin donation.
