Casual Relationships by Lucy Chetcuti

This exhibition of recent collages and sculptures by Lucy Chetcuti explores queer relationality in abstraction. These artworks are produced through incidence and unplanned causality in which one mark influences the next mark. By presenting works as “phenomena” and in dialogue with each other, an alternative experience of their spatial reality and inter-relation is inferred. These artworks explore the ways that abstraction can be used to queer normative understandings of nature. Lucy emphasises the material state of the works as fragile, precarious, and temporal by incorporating found and natural materials outside of their economic value.
