About

How can you fight or avoid eye problems? Take care of your eyes properly. If untreated, many illnesses like Diabetes will sooner or later affect your eyes. For example, Diabetes can damage blood vessels in your eyes, causing minor bleeding and scarring. This makes your vision hazy or blurred and prone to infections.

Eye check

Many eye and vision problems have no obvious symptoms. Therefore, people are often unaware of a problem. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for maintaining good vision and, if possible, preventing permanent vision loss. The need for a regular eye exam depends on your age, race, medical history, family history, occupation and other factors.

In order to detect eye problems early and prevent complications, you need to visit an eye doctor once a year for a photo of your eyes. A special camera takes photographs of your retina. If any abnormalities are found, you will be referred to an optometrist or an ophthalmologist for treatment.

Soon after birth babies require a congenital eye check. Moreover, babies after birth have an extra eye check by an optometrist to detect if eye problems or risk factors are present. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to ensure proper visual development, in order to prevent vision loss due to eye disease and hereditary or congenital eye disorders like a lazy eye or crossed eyes.

Optometrist

The optometrist provides eye care. He is involved in the care of the eye in the broadest sense. The responsibilities of the optometrist include eye exams, to detect abnormalities or diseases of the eye and fitting glasses and contact lenses. Optometry is a field under development.

If you fail a retina scan or have other eye problems, you will be referred to the optometrist. The optometrist makes an extensive examination of your eyes.

The optometrist looks not only at the required strength (refraction) of your glasses or contact lenses, but also the cooperation between the two eyes, the focus at different distances, and eye movements.

3 Tips to improve your environment

1) Provide the proper environment.
Get a good screen, where flickering and line distortion does not occur! If you use a computer, your monitor should have no reflection or glare on the screen. Reflective and adaptive lighting is essential. Sufficient light, light sources should not be too close to your computer.

Pay attention to the climate at your workspace. Ensure maximum humidity (30-70%) and temperature (20-26 ° C). To increase humidity, place a humidifier or a water tank to the heater. To decrease the humidity, you can use a de-humidifier. When an air conditioner or fan is present, do not sit in the direct airflow. Avoid smoke and other dusty areas.

2) Distance properly form your monitor.
The distance between your eyes and the screen should be between 50-70 cm. When you concentrate mostly on screen and paper make sure you place both at the correct distance. The distance between eye and document should be approximately equal to the distance between eye and screen. This ensures that head and eye movements are kept to a minimum.

3) Be aware of using your eyes.
Using the computer screen for a long time is not good for your eyes. There needs to be enough time to for your eyes to relax. Work longer than two hours continuously behind your monitor? This means you need to take regular short breaks. Make sure you keep your eyes moist by regularly blinking.

Ensure the display has a good contrast. The contrast makes your eyes work with less effort. You can also try to use the fonts Arial or Times New Roman. These fonts have well distinct characters and are therefore easy to read.
