Deadpan humour and unflinching honesty are hallmarks of Ellie Ryan and Raffi Butler’s work, with artworks exploring the juxtaposition between playfulness and pain. Playing with the diverse mediums of sculpture, paintings, digital drawings and kinetic works, the artists explore and question how we experience everyday life and interact with art. There is an underlying discomfort in these works: they are fragile and beautiful, yet clinical in appearance, influenced by consumer culture and environmental concerns.
