About
Mary McGillivray is an art historian and visual essayist who has over 350,000 followers on her popular TikTok channel, @_theinconoclass. Earlier this year she made headlines when she utilised her formal art history education to debunk the rumour of the Italian glam rock band Måneskin indulging in some 'nose candy' whilst in the greenroom at this year's Eurovision contest. Applying one point perspective to various artworks as a means of understanding the scandalous image of the alleged drug-use, Mary both educated and entertained over 3 million viewers with her signature wit and charm.
Mary has been engaged by the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery to develop 10 new video essays to explore a selection of works from this year's finalists. Every Sunday of the STILL 2021 exhibition from Sunday 22 August, a new video will be released on her TikTok channel, and on our IGTV (Instagram TV) discussing all things life, death, floral, decaying and most importantly, answer the questions - can a video be a still life? Can sound be a still life? What IS still life? Tune in to find out!
