Bravery Unmasked Exhibition

Bravery Unmasked engages people in a visual dialogue about the perspectives of people who are directly affected by cancer and the positive impact of art-based therapies in healthcare. Radiation therapy immobilisation masks used in the treatment of head and neck cancers are repurposed into artworks. The act of changing the physical nature of the masks through workshops held at Casula Powerhouse and the Liverpool Cancer Therapy Centre aims to shift negative experiences of cancer treatment and diagnosis. The Bravery Unmasked programme in South Western Sydney was inspired by an innovative program called Courage Unmasked from Tennessee, USA. Since 2016, radiation therapy masks have been transformed by people from the Liverpool region whose lives have been affected by cancer diagnosis.
