About
The Gwydir Wetlands are one of the most significant inland wetland systems in New South Wales, and home to a wide variety of birdlife. The bird hide at the Waterbird Lagoon allows you to get up close to the many species that inhabit one of the semi-permanent waterholes of this internationally protected wetland. Open days are timed to coincide with water in the lagoon.
Species that are commonly seen are the many varieties of egrets, glossy and straw-necked ibis, whistling ducks, nankeen night herons, white-breasted sea eagles and varieties of cormorant. With luck you may even see magpie geese, brolga and black-necked storks (Jabiru).
