About

A convict project for New South Wales, like the ‘Founders and Survivors’ database convict project in Tasmania, is to be launched during the Port Macquarie-Hastings Bicentenary 2021 celebrations. It is titled The Port Macquarie Bicentenary Legacy Project. Port Macquarie & Districts Family History Society are hosting the event. We have a full day program planned with Dr Hamish Maxwell-Stewart and Dr David Roberts (guest researchers on the Australian TV program Who Do You Think You Are? prominent Historians Perry McIntyre, Mark Finnane and Tamsin O'Connor; author Meg Kenneally; and local John Heath lecturing. After the launch, the database will be freely available to the public. The entries have been geolocated making it possible to see where individuals were born, lived and died. It provides users with quick access to images of the original archival records, even when the relevant documents are distributed between many holding institutions.
