Braidwood Country House and Garden Weekend

Visit an array of spectacular country gardens and historic houses in charming Braidwood, hosted by the National Trust Women’s Committee. Situated in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, midway between Bateman’s Bay and Canberra, historic Braidwood is listed on the Register of the National Estate and was the very first town to be listed on the NSW State Heritage Register. Located within the Yuin Nation, on Walbanga Country, Europeans arrived in the 1820s and the town was surveyed in 1839, taking its name from a major landholder, Dr Thomas Braidwood Wilson. Gold was discovered in 1851, tripling the population and transforming the town. Many goldrush buildings survive to this day, making the town an ideal base for exploring the region. Now, the region is renowned for the production of fine wool, beef cattle and fat lambs. Mining has recommenced and the town’s colonial charm has attracted a wave of new residents.
