Selby & Friends presents Exotic Strudel

Selby & Friends - chamber music at its best - returns to the live concert stage in March! The delightful 2021 season-opener "Exotic Strudel" presents a fascinating glimpse of how three important composers of the first half of the 20th century - Ernest Block, Joaquin Turina and Dmitri Shostakovich - imagined the piano trio in three powerful "miniatures". All composed within 19 years of each other and from vastly different European cultures, they contrast and complement the highly developed piano trio structure produced by Franz Schubert 100 years earlier, represented in this program with his Piano Trio No. 1 D 898. Violinist Natsuko Yoshimoto and cellist Julian Smiles join Artistic Director and pianist Kathryn Selby AM for the first time together in this program filled with pathos, song and passion.
