About

Shine On Gimuy is an immersive First Nations Arts and Cultural festival, produced by Queensland arts company Shine On Productions, to be held from the 3 – 13 October 2024. Hosted by the Yidinji Nation, Shine On Gimuy is a celebration of art, culture, language and history on the homelands of the Yidinji people. The festival will be a journey of immersion, exploration, and connection to the world's oldest living culture, staged on the Cairns waterfront, where local First Nations stories will be showcased. On the Cairns Esplanade, under the Boulevard of Gimuy trees overlooking the Great Barrier Reef and rainforest, visitors will experience an authentic and meaningful interaction with local Indigenous culture and the region’s stunning natural surrounds. Land and country are integral components of First Nations culture, and through cutting edge sound and light technology, rich storytelling, educational talks, visual art, dance, music, and workshops, we will literally shine a light across the Cairns foreshore precinct and showcase Tropical North Queensland’s unique Indigenous culture and natural environment. The inaugural multi-art form First Nations Festival was universally applauded and attendance over the 10 day Festival reached over 33,000. The Calling Country Opening and Closing Ceremony, Music Makers, ‘Deep Wisdom’ talks and Blak Markets ran from October 5 - 8, while the ArtStory Walk light installations continued until October 15. Entry Cost All tickets $0 - The ArtStory Walk and Blak Markets are free with registration. Music and Talks program are ticketed between $10-$30
