IROC Adult Clinic

IROC is a visiting specialist service aimed at improving the outcome for Indigenous people affected by lung conditions.

Working closely with the local team, IROC clinics are provided by a;

• lung (respiratory) specialist
• scientist to perform specialised breathing tests
• nurse
• Indigenous Project Officer

The IROC clinic has been set up to provide support to Indigenous adults with lung conditions.  Indigenous patients are usually referred by their local medical officer, but we can accept referrals from nursing staff and health workers.

In some circumstances, we may accept urgent referrals for non-Indigenous adults to be seen while we are on-site but routine respiratory referrals should follow HHS models of care and local pathways as IROC is unable to provide routine generic respiratory services. 

You may wish to consider referring to our service if your Indigenous patient has the following symptoms or disorders, and is not under the care of other lung specialists: -

• Persistent chronic cough (dry or wet) or other lung symptoms
• Poorly controlled or complex lung diseases
• Recurrent admissions for lung disease
• Unexplained tachypnoea or breathlessness
• Unexplained chest imaging changes
• Suspected sleep disorders
