Workshop: Introduction to the basic Manouche Swing / Gypsy Jazz - Auburn Frenchfest

Manouche Swing or Gypsy Jazz is known to many through the music of early exponents. These include Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France. The music style is evocative of Paris of the 30s-50s but continues to develop in Europe and beyond. This workshop presented by Les Gitans Blancs features demonstrations highlighting the basic elements that characterize the genre, such as la pompe and the distinctive melodies. The fascinating history and contemporary development of the phenomenon will be discussed. This event is free however registrations are required.
