About

‘My Day of Days’ explores celebrated Australian author Joan Lindsay’s connection and identification with St Valentine’s Day. Discover the magic held in Joan’s personal Valentine’s Day Cards – the inspiration for one of Australia’s most significant literary masterpieces. For Joan, Valentine’s Day was an anniversary that echoed through time – repeating over and over – gaining in meaning over the years. She called it her ‘day of days’ – and it symbolised connection to family and marriage but also her creative practice. It was the day Joan and Daryl Lindsay married but it was also the date of the fateful picnic to Hanging Rock as told in her iconic book “Picnic at Hanging Rock.” At the heart of this unique exhibition is Joan’s personal Valentine’s Day Card Collection. After careful conservation, each card has now been digitised and reproductions will be available to handle and view. Joan and her family exchanged cards, many of which found their way into this collection. The cards span times of joyous celebrations to connections with the film Picnic at Hanging Rock reflecting moments of uncanny mystery and profound loss. Entry Cost Adult $10 Concession $7 Child $4 Family $26 Member $0 - Free for National Trust Members
