About

An exhibition of work by Emma Stenhouse. Indigenous Artisan: Ngarrindjeri Woman: Artist: Printmaker Designer: Sewist Emma, who currently lives in Koroit, is a proud Ngarrindjeri woman and a contemporary indigenous artist with an impressive list of achievements across many areas of the Arts, nationally and internationally. This includes having her art featured by Myers on a range of products, designing fabrics for Hello Friend Fabrics, having her work featured on the Jayco Southside Flyers basketball jersey for the Women's National Basketball League, designing a jumper for Preston Bullants Footbal Club, contributing to various Indigenous Perspectives Projects, and her work has recently been commissioned by Hallmark Cards. She has also been featured twice in UK House and Garden. 'In describing the inspiration for this exhibition, 'Bush to Beach', Emma says that having grown up in Broken Hill, outback New South Wales, she intrinsically draws on her connection to the arid lands of the bush, which is often evident in her use of colours inspired by the red dirt, and the simple concepts of nurturing nature to continue its growth and sustainability. However, since moving to the coast, her work also explores the shades of green and blue reflected in the region: the lush green fields and hills, and the blues of the many waterways and of the Southern Ocean.
