Boubacar Gaye (Senegal), Panga Rodolfo (Cuba) and Amadou Suso (Gambia) have decades of traditional West African musical training and experience between them. After leaving their homelands and entertaining and educating people all over the world, till they eventually settled in Melbourne.
In this performance, Bouba will play Doundouns – powerful bass drums which provide the strength and structure of each piece. Panga, issued from a famous Cuban percussionist family, while Amadou is a world-class exponent of the kora – producing heavenly sounds from the 21-stringed instrument whose tradition he inherited from his kora-playing ancestors.
Together they proudly share the diversity of their heritage through traditional and contemporary forms of their musical cultures.
